Chief Operating Officer
Richard Whitcomb joined HepQuant with more than 20 years of experience in life sciences and medical diagnostics industry. Most recently, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Boulder-based Bioptix Diagnostics where, during his more than 10 years of leadership, he helped the Life Science tools company commercialize core optical technology for pharma and biotech users. Besides building a cross-disciplinary team of physicists, chemists, biochemists and engineers, he established distributor channels in South Korea, China, Taiwan and India.
Following a buyout of Bioptix, Mr. Whitcomb became an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with the University of Colorado Boulder and a SAGE advisor with Innosphere. Previously he served in various leadership roles for nearly 20 years with Hewlett Packard Company and its carve out, Agilent Technologies, a leading international technology company specializing in test and measurement, and life sciences. As General Manager, Americas On-Site Services, Mr. Whitcomb created a new strategy to make service “Agilent’s face to the customer” through combined on-site and local, fast turnaround pick-up/delivery service. He also negotiated multiple contracts in excess of $1 million annually with Agilent’s largest customers.
Serving as Agilent’s Operational CFO, Communications Network Solutions, Mr. Whitcomb’s restructured strategy and product portfolio management helped the company focus on emerging applications rather than network infrastructure. In this role, he had global responsibility for business unit finances involving divisions in Australia, Canada, Germany, Scotland, and the U.S.
Mr. Whitcomb earned a Master of Science in Finance and Econometrics, Business Administration, from the University of Colorado (Leeds School) in Boulder, CO. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
